The Children Tournament
The flagship that makes Tesfa stand out from the other clubs in Asmara is the children tournament. The tournament can be seen as Asmara's answer to Norway cup, but it is slightly different in terms of length and the involvement of disabled from the war as tournament mangers and organizers.
Two tournements are held every year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The games are played every Saturday and Sunday, and there are around 160 teams (2000 children) participating every weekend. Both boys and girls are part of the tournament, in addition to children with special needs, deaf and blind. (see more information under the "deaf, blind, disabled" link above)
The games are played in 7 fields around in Asmara, and are organized by around 70 disabled from the war from the DenDen camp, supported by the Tesfa junior and senior professional players. In this regard Tesfa differs from the other professional football teams in Asmara, as their professional players do not get their salary from playing football in itself, but rather for their contribution and effort in organizing the tournament.
The fall 2008 tournament is now soon coming to an end and the remaining final games between the winners of each of the 7 fields will be conducted shortly. The winning teams will be awarded trophies, football jersey, footballs, and T-shirts for their great achievements.
