Summary of major events for the Women team over the last couple of years

Season 2007/2008

The women team ended the season as runners up

benchTesfa have been the dominant team in the Asmara women league over the last 4 years, but ended this as the runners up on goal difference. The women’s league in Asmara includes 5-6 teams, but the competitive teams are only Tesfa and Natna. Tesfa lost 2-4 to Natna on the first league, but they made revenge by beating Natna 4-3 on the final day. However, this was not enough to make Tesfa crown champions, as the rivals Natna at the end had a better goal difference.

Overall, many experienced players have left the team this season. Around 7-8 Tesfa women players haven’t played this season for mainly two reasons: marriage and military training. However, there are also promising new players joining the team from the girls youth tournament.

 

Season 2006/2007

The team won the National Champion ship for the 3rd time in a row

This season the Tesfa women’s team played 10 matches and they won all the games. This made the team winners of the National Championship for the 3rd time in a row. Ruta Amlesom is the top scorer with 38 goals and Rahwa, who was top scorer last season, was third this time after scoring 30 goals. Ruta is awarded ERN 3000 as a prize. The women’s’ team were also cup finalist in three occasions: Independence cup, Asmara cup, and the Cup Winner Cup.

Most of the Tesfa players are part of the Eritrean women national team. The Eritrean National team has played in couple of occasions, against Morocco and Tanzania. There are new young girl players that are joining the senior team as some of the senior players are leaving the club for good. The goal of the Tesfa women team is to defend thier last medal in the Championship and to win all the trophies available in the season a head.
